What is Classical Five Element Acupuncture?

Five Element Acupuncture is one of the branches of Classical Chinese Medicine. This ancient system of medicine functions within the Taoist philosophy that living in harmony with nature is key to a healthy life. It operates on the premise that human beings function in direct relationship to the natural world.

Five Element Acupuncture relates with the five essential elements (fire, earth, metal, water and wood) which manifest as nature's building blocks. The dynamic relationship of these elements results in maintaining life on earth, in both the environmental and internal ecologies.

Your  Five Element Practitioner will diagnose where your intricate natural balance might be disrupted, causing symptoms and potential illness. They will trace your symptoms to the cause, and treat the delicate relationship of the elements to restore integrity and proper functioning. This can help heal issues at the root level, allowing symptoms to resolve, vitality to arise, and great health to be sustained.

How is Acupuncture Done?

Acupuncture involves the use of thin hair-like needles which are inserted gently at specific points. The acupuncture points are a way to access particular channels and organ systems as a means to affect homeostasis.

Scientific research studies show that the acupuncture points access the same internal pathways as the parasympathetic nervous system which puts us in a state of relaxation (“rest and digest”). These same pathways also trigger the naturally occurring neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine decreases pain reactions in the body, and is vital for both physical and mental well being.
